The women of an isolated religious community grapple with reconciling their reality with their faith. Though the backstory, we see a community of women come together to figure out how they might move forward together to build a better world for themselves and their children. Director Sarah Polley has created a film that is compelling, gripping, powerful, and as tense as a thriller. Think of it this way: it’s like Twelve Angry Men, but in this instance it’s Eight Angry Women (in a hayloft). “Women Talking” is a powerful, moving tribute to quiet strength — and, unexpectedly, to hope.
