Simon has been a compulsive liar since childhood. His family, friends and colleagues organize an intervention to tell him that enough is enough and that he must stop. Unfortunately, it turns into a confrontation and Simon denies having told all these lies. Simon’s self-serving lies are so abundant that the universe (governed by a handful of Buddhist monks, it seems) decides to right a wrong by teaching him a lesson and making all of the lies reality. Disasters, zany and aberrant, follow one after another. All have one thing in common: they are the incarnation of his many lies. In this parallel universe Simon will have to face the consequences of the falsehoods he has told others for years, but also the ones – much more destructive – that he tells himself. This is a rare thing for Quebec cinema: outright fantasy, with everything that implies – a high-concept comedy that’s partially about sponsorship scandals and the looming threat of a plant closure. “Menteur” is “Everything, Everywhere All at Once” Quebecois style.
