Beans
Friday March 10 2023, 9:00 PM

Based on true events, Tracey Deer’s debut feature chronicles a middle school student coming of age during the Oka Crisis, a 78 day long standoff between the police and Mohawk residents in 1990 in Quebec. Beans stands out not only as as a coming-of-age tale, with a lead character whose struggle we understand and feel keenly, but as a drama of a painful and pivotal moment in Indigenous and Canadian history.
