In rural Ireland, a quiet, neglected girl is sent away from her dysfunctional family to live with relatives for the summer where she blossoms. The Quiet Girl is a small gem of a film. The acting is excellent and the simple but affecting story, with its setting of a lush green and surprisingly sunny Ireland, packs an emotional wallop. In 2023 it was nominated for the Best International Feature Film Oscar. The Quiet Girl technically lives up to its name, but speaks volumes about the transformative power of what it means to be loved.
